The Acton region:  A gateway into to the North American market

The Acton region enjoys a desirable geographical location, allowing access to several transportation infrastructures. The region is situated at the hub of several large cities in Quebec and along the Montreal-Québec city and Montreal-United States axes. It is at the heart of economic development in Quebec, even North America. Indeed, the Acton area is only one hour from the United States, and its proximity to large American cities make it a choice location to establish a business. It is a major gateway into the North American market and its opportunities.

Road transport

The Acton region connects to Highways 10, 55 and 20—the Trans-Canada which traverses the entire country—by way of the provincial routes 116 (east-west) and 139 (north-south).  The US border is quickly accessed by Highways 10 and 55, and Highway 20 connects the largest Quebec cities (Montreal, Trois-Rivieres, Québec city) to one another and to the largest Canadian cities near the Great Lakes (Toronto, Mississauga, Kingston). It is a market deserving of attention, with a pool of more than 100 million consumers within a 700 km radius. The largest North American cities are just next door.

Rail transport

Two railway routes cross the Acton region. The first route is a section of Canadian National`s trans-Canadian line, which runs alongside Highway 20 and travels on the Toronto-Montreal-Québec city axis. The second is CN`s Montreal-Portland line (Saint Lawrence-Atlantic segment), which goes west towards Sherbrooke and major American urban centres. A grain and fuel transfer centre is located on the Montreal-Portland shipping line in Upton, in the Action region. Another transfer centre, located in Richmond only 20 minutes from the central city of Acton Vale, transfers and transports an even larger range of products.

Air transport

The Acton region is superbly located for international air transport. It is 100 km (one hour by vehicle) from the Pierre-Elliott Trudeau Airport in Montreal, 200 km (two hours by vehicle) from the Burlington Airport in the United States and two hours from the Québec city airport. The region also provides access to regional airports found in Sherbrooke, Drummondville, Bromont and St-Hubert.

Transport portuaire

Transportation from ports

The ports of Montreal, Trois-Rivières and Sorel are less than a one-hour drive away. And the ports of Quebec and Bécancour are located less than a two-hour drive away from the Acton region. Its direct link to North America's main industrial regions (Midwest, Great Lakes, US East Coast) make it an ideal choice for businesses.
